Mobile Application for iPhone Allows Canadian Tulip Festival Visitors to Personalize and Share Their Experience, and Automatically Find Clues to Treasure

The Canadian Tulip Festival (http://www.tulipfestival.ca) announced today that it has partnered with Purple Forge to create a mobile application for iPhones that allows users to create postcards on-the-fly by selecting their own stamps, themes and photographs of the festival that can be shared with their friends using email, Twitter or Facebook. Combined with event schedules, video, QR code scanner and weather information, the application is the go-to mobile electronic guide for The Canadian Tulip Festival and The Great Canadian Tulip Treasure Hunt.

“Enhancing the quality of visitor experience is a key goal of the Festival, and this innovative mobile application for iPhones from Purple Forge allows the experience to be personalized and shared,” said Najwa Farhat, Program Coordinator at The Canadian Tulip Festival. “iPhone users will certainly enjoy the feature that automatically locates and registers clues in this year’s Great Canadian Treasure Hunt.”

There are 60 prizes to be won in the treasure hunt at this year’s 60th anniversary edition of The Canadian Tulip Festival. To qualify to win, anyone over 18–with or without an iPhone– just has to visit any six of the many designated treasure hunt locations where they will be given a clue, and then submit the six different clues they collect to the Festival’s web site. For contestants with iPhones, it’s now even easier: by downloading the location-based app from Purple Forge they can register at the touch of a button from any designated clue location and automatically get credited with having successfully found a “clue.” Complete information and rules for the treasure hunt are at http://www.tulipfestival.ca

“We are very pleased to be partnering with The Canadian Tulip Festival on this innovative mobile application,” said John Craig, VP Sales and Marketing at Purple Forge. “This is a bold technological step forward in festival marketing and attendee engagement, allowing visitors to become ambassadors of the festival and share the experience with their friends.”

Government Grants, Loans and Financing

Yesterday I attended the TiE event on “Leveraging Government Funding – Sources and Strategies”.  It was a good session.  For any aspiring entrepreneur in Ottawa, I highly recommend joining the TiE organization.

For those entrepreneurs looking for alternative sources of capital for their start-up, a very good site which provides comprehensive information to help you find available programs from Federal and Provincial governments is http://www.canadabusiness.ca/eng/search/sof/.
