Nintendo 3DS
I have an original Virtual Boy in my basement – which is a very cool piece of technology – although headache-inducing. I remember thinking “wow” the first time I tried it out – the 3D games were impressive.
I bought a Nintendo 3DS a few weeks ago and it is the first time in awhile that I have been “wow’d” by the potential of a technology.
It’s ability to take stereoscopic images and display stereoscopic images (adding perception of 3D depth) without the use of special headgear or glasses on the part of the viewer is revolutionary. The technology is called autostereoscopy.
If you haven’t seen a 3DS – drop by Best Buy and take their demo unit for a spin!
3D photography, 3D videos, 3D video conferencing, Immersive Gaming, (useful) Augmented Reality, 3D UX… a whole new world of innovation is just around the corner….
Unfortunately, the 3DS as a product seems to be doing poorly. Nintendo does not seem to have done a lot of marketing of the new device (I can’t remember ever seeing a TV or print ad) and there are only a limited number of games.
